For those of you with low vision:
This painting depicts the twilight view down an empty street lined with leafy trees on both sides. The community movie theater, an old brick building with an arched window in its gable, stands alone on the left side of the street, and a large crowd of figures, slightly blurred in motion, is gathered under the brightly lit building entrance canopy, coming or going from an event. In the center of the painting stands an illuminated lamppost in its circle of light , repeated in a receding colonnade of circles and lamps down the quiet street to the horizon. The right side of the street is lined with the silhouettes of parked cars and its row of trees. A deep purple glow of the recently set sun lines the wide horizon in the distance.
