The painting depicts the view from between two houses, across a yard and onto the ocean in the background. A lattice fence runs diagonally across the lower section of the paining, opening up in the center of the yard, inviting the viewer to enter the space. The porch of a house and tree are in view on the left side of the painting, while the wall of the neighboring house is shown on the right.
