This painting depicts clouds and blue sky reflected on a stretch of ocean, rendered in layered marks of paint applied in blurred palette knife strokes. The painting is photographed where it hangs on the wall of the lobby of the Watermark West apartment building. Clicking on the image reveals detail photographs that show close-ups of the playfully expressionist, palette-knife loads of paint splayed across the canvas to create what come together, seen from a distance, to look like sky reflected on water. These close-ups also reveal that faint traces of an old map of Cambridge at the Charles River can be seen through the paint surface.
