For those of you with low vision:
This painting shows the view through a window with a set of mullions in close-up, in pale cobalt violet/grey, framing the view of a dark interior with a lineup of school chairs and a girl sitting in partial silhouette serenely engaged in writing, this darkness pierced by the white-yellow light cast from two large windows on what must be the far wall, all dominated by the reflection of bright sun-filled sky and full-bodied trees behind you, the viewer. There are swatches of refracted images of the interior and exterior doubled in the window glass that create secondary patterns in the composition. Along the back wall are faint traces of a Shaker spindle bench which runs nearly the entire width of the room, catching the light in two thin slivers beneath the windows.
