This painting is a tall rectangle divided in two, with a dark blue image above and a nautical chart below. Above, in thin dark blue washes of oil paint, appears the silhouette of an island in a night sea with another coastline at the horizon high near the top of the canvas. Pinpoints of orange light dot the island, the two little islands beside it, and the lighthouse off the point in the foreground. Below, the nautical chart has been soaked by the same wash of oil, erased in the white areas showing the sea around the island, which is Fishers Island, NY. At the vary bottom, a thin strip of wood underlines the chart.
