This painting shows a beach late in the day, ridged by a line of trees with a house, behind a sunlit stretch of sand surrounded by, vignetted by, the stretched-long shadows of trees behind you. Shining through the shadowed area in the bottom half of the painting are the views out three windows from a house looking down onto a beach. The colors of the painting are warm, with peachy beige sand beside darker mocha sand, and amber light in the window curtains countered by a cobalt blue sky. The light in the trees has a sunset warmth and even the shadows are in warm greys. In the view out one of the windows, there’s a director’s chair with a salmon-colored canvas back catching bits of sunlight against some raw sienna shingles on the porch wall.
